What ECE-R10 governs

UN Regulation No. 10 (ECE-R10) defines the EMC requirements for vehicles and for electrical/electronic sub-assemblies (ESA). It requires limit values and evidence both for emissions (radiated and conducted) and for immunity — so that neither the vehicle control system nor the driver, occupants or other road users are endangered.

Scope

It covers vehicle categories L, M, N, O, T, R and S — from motorcycles through passenger cars and trucks to trailers and agricultural/forestry vehicles — as well as components and separate technical units installed in them.

Type Approval & E-marking

ECE-R10 is the basis for type approval and the E-marking (E-mark) — market access in over 50 countries, including the EU, depends on it.

Relationship to CISPR 25 and ISO 11452

ECE-R10 is the regulatory framework; the technical tests rely on standards such as CISPR 25 (emissions) and ISO 11452 (immunity). The current Revision 7 has been in force since 17 June 2025.

Does ECE-R10 also apply to individual components?

Yes. In addition to the complete vehicle, electronic sub-assemblies (ESA) can also receive their own E-marking. This is relevant for suppliers whose components go into vehicles subject to approval.
