CISPR 25 — the automotive EMC standard made clear.

CISPR 25 protects radio receivers on board vehicles from interference. Understanding it early avoids expensive surprises shortly before release.

What it is about

CISPR 25 covers the radio-frequency emissions of components and entire vehicles — with the goal of not disturbing on-board receivers (radio, GPS, cellular). Testing is done both conducted and radiated, across defined frequency ranges.

Component vs. vehicle

The standard covers tests at component level (a single ECU/module in a lab setup) and at vehicle level. For suppliers, the component level is usually decisive — this is where it is determined whether a module will later cause interference in the vehicle.

Severity levels / classes

CISPR 25 defines classes (severity levels) for permissible interference levels. In practice, which class applies is often specified by the OEM — partly via their own standards (e.g. TL 81000, MBN 50284). We clarify the specific framework on a project-by-project basis.

Frequently asked questions

Is CISPR 25 the same as the EMC Directive?
No. The EMC Directive (2014/30/EU) is the EU legal framework; CISPR 25 is a specific standard for radio interference in the automotive context. OEM requirements frequently reference CISPR 25 plus their own standards.
Can you measure to CISPR 25?
We measure throughout development (pre-compliance) in line with CISPR 25 in our fully-anechoic chamber, so that your ECU passes the final, accredited test with margin. (Check the current standard revision before use.)
