What does an EMC measurement cost? The honest cost factors.
A flat figure would be misleading — costs depend heavily on the case. This guide shows which factors drive the price and how pre-compliance helps you avoid expensive surprises.
What determines the price
- Standard & target market: automotive (CISPR 25), rail (EN 50121), medical (IEC 60601-1-2) and industrial (EN 61000-6-2) differ considerably in effort.
- Scope: emissions only, or immunity as well (ESD, burst, surge)? More test severity = more effort.
- Iterations: measuring once is inexpensive — measuring repeatedly because causes are unclear becomes expensive.
- Pre-compliance vs. accredited: development-accompanying measurement is cheaper and finds causes early; the final accredited test is more expensive and should succeed on the first attempt.
- Setup & preparation: a cleanly documented, measurement-ready setup saves lab time.
How to reduce costs
