Method · Measuring early pays off

What is EMC pre-compliance? And when do you need it?

Pre-compliance means measuring EMC during development — not only at the final, accredited test. That significantly reduces risk, cost and time pressure.

Pre-compliance vs. compliance

Compliance is the formal conformity test in an accredited lab — the basis for CE marking and the like. Pre-compliance refers to measurements taken throughout development that serve as a safeguard and may be performed in your own (non-accredited) lab.

Why pre-compliance pays off

  • Find causes early, while changes are still inexpensive.
  • Build up margin instead of entering the expensive test right at the limit value.
  • Protect deadlines — no re-spin shortly before start of series production.

When is the right time?

As early as possible — ideally at the first functional prototype. The later EMC is taken into account, the more expensive the countermeasures become.

Frequently asked questions

Does pre-compliance replace the accredited test?
No. It prepares for it and lowers the risk of failing there. The formal test remains necessary for conformity.
What does pre-compliance cost?
That depends on the product, the standards and the scope of measurement. The effort often pays for itself through an avoided re-spin or a series deadline that is kept. We provide a transparent estimate.
